Common terminology of surge protective device:
1. Air termination system
Metal objects and metal structures used to directly receive or bear lightning strikes, such as: lightning rod, lightning strip (wire), lightning net, etc;
2. Down conductor system
The metal conductor connecting the lightning arrester and the grounding device;
3. Earth termination system
The sum of the connecting conductors of the grounding body and the grounding body;
4. Earth electrode
A metal conductor embedded in the earth and in direct contact with the earth. Also known as earth electrode. All kinds of metal components, metal facilities, metal pipes and metal equipment that directly contact with the earth can also be used as grounding body, which is called natural grounding body;
5. Earth conductor
The connecting wire or conductor from the grounding terminal of electrical equipment to the grounding device, or the connecting wire or conductor from the metal object requiring equipotential connection, the general grounding terminal, the grounding summary board, the general grounding bar and the equipotential connection bar to the grounding device;
6. Direct lightning flash
Lightning that directly strikes the building, earth or lightning protection device and other actual objects;
7. Back flashover
The change of ground potential in this area is caused by lightning current passing through grounding point or grounding system. The counterattack of ground potential will cause the change of ground system potential, which may cause the damage of electronic equipment and electrical equipment;
8. Lightning protection system (LPS)
Systems to reduce damage caused by lightning to buildings, devices and other protection targets, including external and internal lightning protection systems;
8.1 external lightning protection system
The lightning protection part of the exterior or body of the building (structure) is usually composed of lightning arrester, downlead and grounding device, which is used to prevent direct lightning strike;
8.2 internal lightning protection system
The lightning protection part of the building (structure) is usually composed of equipotential connection system, common grounding system, shielding system, reasonable wiring, surge protector, etc. it is mainly used to reduce and prevent the electromagnetic effect of lightning current in the protection space;
